CPI(M) Condemns Remarks Against U Prathibha, Slams UDF Leaders for Their Silence

Thiruvananthapuram: The state secretariat of CPI(M) has strongly condemned the derogatory remarks made by UDF leader A Irshad against U Prathibha, the LDF candidate from Kayamkulam, describing the incident as “highly objectionable.”

In a statement, the party called upon all those who believe in democratic values to unite against such attitudes. It emphasized that elections should be platforms for debating political positions and development initiatives, not for targeting individuals with personal or misogynistic attacks.

The CPI(M) alleged that the shift toward insulting women reflects a broader pattern in the political approach of the opposition, which it said is unacceptable in Kerala’s socio-cultural context.

The statement also pointed out that senior UDF leaders present at the event did not intervene or object when the remarks were made. The party statement stated that this silence indicates a continuation the UDF’s anti-women stance.

Reiterating its position, the CPI(M) stressed that such conduct undermines the dignity of women in public life and weakens the quality of democratic discourse during elections.
