Thiruvananthapuram: CPI M state secretary M V Govindan said the party will strongly resist the Governor’s ongoing saffronisation efforts. He accused the Governor of rejecting all names proposed for the Sanskrit University Syndicate in order to appoint individuals affiliated with the Sangh Parivar. Similar trends are being seen at Calicut University and the Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, he added, where actions are being guided by Sangh Parivar interests.

“Left-affiliated student and youth organisations are consistently on the ground, protesting these actions,” Govindan said. “But it is unfortunate that the UDF, instead of opposing saffronisation, is becoming a passive ally to it. This failure to take a principled stand is deeply regrettable.”

He further criticised the UDF for aligning with communal political forces, saying this approach weakens the Left Democratic Front and undermines secular politics in Kerala.

Drawing from history, Govindan recalled an incident involving former Chief Minister E M S Namboodiripad. “When EMS was in office, the Vice Chancellor of Kerala University had to wait for permission to meet him. EMS had made it clear that it was the Vice Chancellor’s duty to approach the Chief Minister, not the other way around. But today, we see a complete reversal of that dignity and legacy.”

He described the participation of five university Vice Chancellors in the “Jnana Sabha” attended by RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat as a disgrace to Kerala. “The so-called Jnana Sabha is a Sangh Parivar programme. The presence of Vice Chancellors at such an event is part of a dangerous, deliberate push for religious indoctrination.”

Govindan reiterated that the CPI M will intensify its resistance against RSS efforts to saffronise the education system. “The people of Kerala have always stood against communal polarisation. This ongoing protest is part of our cultural legacy, and we will continue to defend it with full strength,” he declared.
