Thiruvananthapuram: In a shocking revelation, M.A. Shahnaz, the General Secretary of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee's (KPCC) Cultural Society, has disclosed that Congress MP Shafi Parambil was aware of the sexual exploitation by Congress MLA Rahul Mankootathil. Shahnaz accused Shafi of concealing Mankootathil's inappropriate behavior, even as the leader continued to hold key positions within the party.

In a Facebook post, Shahnaz recounted how, at the time when Shafi was an MLA, she had pleaded with him not to appoint Mankootathil as the Youth Congress State President. Shahnaz warned that appointing individuals with such a history could lead to the exploitation of women within the organization. However, her concerns were met with mockery and sarcasm, and Shafi dismissed her request outright. Shahnaz also claimed to have evidence supporting her version of the events.

Shahnaz further responded to the Congress Cyber Team’s efforts to justify Mankootathil's actions and insult the survivor. She stated, “There is a disturbing mindset among predators: when they are caught exploiting women, their next tactic is to invite other women to public events, embrace them in front of others, and try to show that they are very decent.” She also pointed out that despite being attacked and questioned by several Congress leaders, her position has always been one of unwavering support for women’s rights.

The Congress leader emphasized that the women, who were assaulted by Rahul, are now being defamed on social media to protect a criminal. Shahnaz also highlighted the irony that candidates recommended by Mankootathil, who had been expelled from the party, are still contesting in local body elections across various parts of Kerala.
