Kochi: The judge registered as the owner of the car involved in the fatal accident in Cheranalloor, in which a 17-year-old allegedly driving recklessly killed an elderly man, has been named as an accused in the case. The Mercedes-Benz involved in the accident is registered in the name of the teenager’s father, an additional judge. The Keralam High Court has issued a memo seeking an explanation from the judge. There are also reports that an application will be filed before the district court seeking cancellation of the teenager’s bail.

Jayabalakrishnan, 55, of Puthenparambil House in Manjali, was killed when a luxury car allegedly driven at high speed by the son of a Motor Accident Claims Tribunal judge hit his scooter. The teenager was driving a Mercedes-Benz bearing registration number KL 46 F 0333.

After taking the teenager into custody, police initially released him on station bail. The police had registered the case under minor charges following the accident. After protests intensified over what was described as an attempt to protect the accused, the teenager was taken into custody again and produced before the Juvenile Justice Board, which subsequently granted him bail again.
