Aluva: Police have registered a case against a doctor at Aluva District Hospital following allegations that a six-month-old infant was administered an overdose of medicine after receiving a routine immunisation vaccine.

According to a complaint filed by the child's family, the alleged overdose caused the infant to develop serious health complications.

The incident reportedly occurred a week ago when the parents took the baby to Aluva General Hospital for a scheduled immunisation. The family alleged that the dosage of paracetamol prescribed after the vaccination was excessive, resulting in the infant's sudden deterioration in health.

As the baby's condition worsened, the parents shifted the child to a private hospital for emergency treatment. They said they have already spent around ₹1 lakh on the infant's medical care.

The parents approached the Aluva West Police only after the child recovered from the critical condition. Following a preliminary inquiry into the complaint, police said they found evidence indicating that an overdose of medicine had been administered.

Based on the preliminary findings, which indicated a serious lapse on the part of the doctor on duty, police have registered a case against the doctor. The Aluva Police said further investigation into the incident is underway.
