AIDWA Slams UDF's Withdrawal of Benefits for Women Born Without Uterus

Thiruvananthapuram: The All India Democratic Women's Association (AIDWA) has condemned the withdrawal of social protections previously extended to women born without a uterus, calling it inhumane and a failure to acknowledge the life challenges they face. The State Human Rights Commission had, in 2017, directed that such women be classified under the 50 percent disability category and given reservations and benefits in employment, pensions and free travel. Acting on this, the LDF government issued an order on November 18, 2017, formally extending disability-category benefits to women born without a uterus. It is this order that the UDF government has now rescinded.
AIDWA said the central and state governments must reconsider the matter. It is condemnable, the organisation said, that those who make grand promises about women's rights, once in power, take steps that undermine the very security of women's lives. AIDWA president K S Saleekha and secretary C S Sujatha demanded that the rights and benefits previously available to women born without a uterus be restored without delay.
