U Prathibha Insulted; Muslim League Leader Arrested

Alappuzha: Kayamkulam LDF candidate U Prathibha was publicly insulted by UDF constituency convenor and Muslim League leader Irshad Chakkalassery, leading to his arrest. Kayamkulam police recorded Irshad's arrest, after which he was released on bail. The case includes charges of insulting women’s dignity, making false statements to influence election results, and defamation.

The insult occurred during a UDF convention on Tuesday, where Irshad's defamatory remarks were made in the presence of witnesses including MP K C Venugopal, DCC president B Babuprasad, and candidate M Liju. The Kerala Mahila Association State Committee and the Central Election Commission filed complaints regarding the remarks. Following the complaints, the District Election Officer, Collector K Inbasekhar, was requested to intervene in the matter. As the remarks violated the model code of conduct, the collector instructed that a case be filed.
