Thiruvananthapuram Sees Civic Transformation and LDF Political Gains Ahead of Elections

Thiruvananthapuram's Vellayambalam-Chenthitta Smart Road
Thiruvananthapuram: Thiruvananthapuram’s streets are now clean, uncluttered, and well-maintained, free from dangling cable wires or overflowing garbage bins. The city’s transformation—from smart roads to improved residential facilities—reflects effective governance that has turned public aspirations into reality.
Over the past five years, the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation has implemented development projects worth 3,000 crore rupees for basic infrastructure. The city has recorded notable achievements, including high air quality, the introduction of a green budget, and recognition through multiple national and international awards. Efforts to preserve the city’s heritage while providing modern amenities have also been appreciated by residents. A total of 49 roads in the city have been upgraded into smart roads, making Thiruvananthapuram home to one of the largest smart road networks in the country.
Politically, the ruling LDF has strengthened its position, securing landslide victories in four by-elections and winning constituencies previously held by the BJP, which had circulated false narratives against the left front. Following the ward reorganization, CPI(M) is contesting 70 out of 101 wards, while CPI, Kerala Congress (M), RJD, JD(S), INL, Congress (S), NCP, Democratic Kerala Congress, Kerala Congress (B), and JSS are contesting in the remaining wards. UDF, who were limited to 10 wards in 2020 is facing both internal dissent and external challenges. Kerala Congress (Joseph faction) and the Muslim League fielded candidates in multiple wards against Congress.
The BJP is struggling to respond to allegations of widespread corruption involving its councilors and leaders. The suicides of former councilor and RSS leader Thirumala Anil and Trikannapuram RSS activist Anand K. Thampi, who were denied party tickets, continue to haunt the party.
