Thiruvananthapuram: The BJP has suffered a decline in its vote share in Kerala’s local body elections, marking a setback compared to its performance in the previous Lok Sabha polls. According to figures from the State Election Commission, the party secured 14.76 percent of the votes across gram panchayats, municipalities, and corporations.
Although the BJP made some gains in a few seats, it lost several constituencies it previously held, with over 600 sitting wards reportedly slipping from its control. The results indicate the party continues to face challenges in expanding its base in the state.
The Left Democratic Front (LDF) ally CPI M received 27.16 percent of the votes. The Congress recorded 29.17 percent of the votes, while independents secured 5.77 percent. Other parties’ vote shares included CPI at 5.58 percent, the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) at 9.77 percent, and Kerala Congress (M) at 1.62 percent.
Analysts note that the BJP’s declining vote share reflects the difficulties it faces in consolidating support in Kerala’s local political landscape. Smaller parties and independents continue to hold significance in determining outcomes at the grassroots level, while established fronts like the CPI M maintain steady influence in key areas.
