Washington DC: US President Donald Trump has demanded compensation from Iran for the deaths of American soldiers killed over the past several decades. Trump said he was taking the position in response to Iranian representatives demanding that the US pay compensation for the damage caused by the war.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said Iran should pay compensation to the families of US soldiers killed in bombings and the USS Cole attack. He also demanded compensation for the families of those killed over the past 50 years and those who have been killed during the past five months.

In another post, Trump said Iran should also be held responsible for the destruction and loss of life in Lebanon, Syria, Yemen and Gaza and should pay compensation for those losses.

Trump's provocative move comes as peace talks aimed at ending the war and restoring traffic through the Strait of Hormuz remain stalled.
