North Korea Launches Ballistic Missiles During U.S.-South Korea Military Drills

Tokyo: North Korea fired 10 ballistic missiles into the sea during joint U.S.-South Korea military drills. Some of the missiles reportedly landed near Japan. The missiles were launched at around 1:20 p.m. from the Sunan area, where Pyongyang International Airport is located, according to South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff. Reports indicate that the missiles landed outside Japan's exclusive economic zone. The South Korean military has not released further details about the missiles but stated that it has increased surveillance in anticipation of more missile launches from North Korea. The South Korean military said it is closely monitoring the situation in coordination with the United States and Japan. Following the incident, Japan's Prime Minister's Office issued an emergency alert.
Ballistic missiles, which travel at high altitudes, are used for long-range attacks. In addition to enhancing their weapon capabilities, these tests also serve as a warning to enemy nations.
