Tel Aviv: Left-wing MPs interrupted US President Donald Trump’s address to the Israeli Parliament on Tuesday, protesting his stance on Palestine. While far-right legislators listened with applause and admiration, members of the leftist Hadash party, Ofer Cassif and Ayman Odeh, rose from their seats shouting, “Recognise Palestine as a free state!”
Odeh was the first to move, holding up a placard bearing the same message. Startled, Trump halted his speech momentarily as security personnel rushed in at the Speaker’s instruction. In the ensuing scuffle, Cassif joined the protest before both MPs were forcibly removed from the chamber.
Later, Odeh told reporters that the ceasefire agreement had been imposed on Palestine through coercion. “Without recognising Palestine as a sovereign nation, no fair solution can ever be reached,” he said. “Whatever excuses are made, the blood of innocent Palestinians and Israelis will stain Netanyahu’s government for years to come.” He added that they had been expelled from the Parliament merely for voicing the simplest and most legitimate demand recognised by the international community.
Cassif also defended the protest, saying it was “an act of conscience, a demand for justice in the face of hypocrisy.”
Hadash, the left-wing coalition they represent, was formed through an alliance between the Communist Party of Israel and other progressive groups. Modi Praises Netanyahu and Trump New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, accused of genocide in Palestine, and US President Donald Trump, who backed Israel’s campaign. Modi described the release of hostages as “proof of Trump’s unwavering commitment to peace and Netanyahu’s firmness of resolve.” “We support President Trump’s sincere efforts to ensure stability in the region,” Modi wrote on social media.
