Tehran: Iran’s government has rejected U.S. President Donald Trump’s claim that there has been significant progress in diplomatic talks with Iran. Trump had stated that positive discussions had taken place with Iran; however, Iran’s Foreign Ministry officially said that no such talks have occurred.

Iran says Trump’s claims are just political drama and that diplomatic talks are currently irrelevant. Trump told the media that relations with Iran are improving and that talks are showing positive signs. He signaled that Iran was willing to ease tensions in the region. The White House also expressed optimism about these talks. Shortly after Trump’s statement was released, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson denied it.

Iran has stated that it has not held any formal or informal talks with the United States and reiterated that there is no possibility of negotiations unless the unilateral economic sanctions imposed on it are lifted. Iran’s Foreign Ministry added that Trump’s remarks are intended to mislead the international community, emphasising that the belief that Iran can be brought to the negotiating table through sanctions and threats is merely an illusion.

Amid worsening U.S.–Iran relations in the region, these contradictory statements are further deepening the diplomatic crisis. Political observers assess that Trump’s move is aimed at influencing the upcoming elections.
