Tehran: The return of Indian students stranded in Iran amid the escalating conflict in the Middle East has begun. The first batch of around 100 students is expected to reach India via the Armenian border on March 14 and 15. Medical students studying in universities in Tehran, Urmia, and Shiraz are currently planning their return. Due to restrictions on Iranian airspace, the plan is for them to travel to Armenia by land and then reach Delhi via Dubai.

Around 30 students from Urmia University of Medical Sciences have already booked their tickets. They are scheduled to land at Indira Gandhi International Airport at 1:25 AM on March 15.

Authorities have also suggested travel arrangements for students of Shiraz University via Azerbaijan. The return of the students is being organised under the supervision of the Indian Embassy. More than 4,000 students are currently studying in various universities in Iran. With the first group returning home, it is hoped that more students will soon be able to do the same.
