Riyadh: Three people were killed and several others injured in Houthi attacks targeting airports in Saudi Arabia. One person was killed and eight others injured in an attack in Riyadh, while authorities said two people were killed and 28 injured in an attack on Abha airport.

The Houthis also carried out an airstrike targeting Aden International Airport in Yemen. Yemen's Ministry of Transport said a missile landed near the airport's runway. No casualties were reported in the attack. Following the strike, a flight travelling from Cairo to Aden was diverted to Jeddah.

The missile struck near the runway just minutes before the aircraft was due to land. As there was a possibility of further attacks, two aircraft on the runway were moved to a safe location. Yemen's Ministry of Transport alleged that the Houthis targeted the airport using ballistic missiles and drones carrying explosives.

Aden airport is a key international gateway to areas under the control of Yemen's internationally recognised government. The attack came as Saudi-backed government forces were mounting strong counterattacks against the Houthis, who control large parts of northern Yemen.

Saudi forces said they destroyed a ballistic missile launched by the Houthis towards an area near Riyadh. Saudi authorities also said another missile attack targeting Khamis Mushait in southwestern Saudi Arabia was intercepted.

Meanwhile, Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree claimed that the group had carried out a drone attack targeting King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh.
