Gaza: At least 10 Palestinians were killed in the Gaza Strip in fresh Israeli military actions over a 24-hour period, according to medical and health authorities in the territory. The casualties were part of a series of strikes and clashes that continued despite a fragile ceasefire framework and ongoing diplomatic efforts to freeze hostilities.
Palestinian health officials reported that the victims included people struck by air raids across several areas of Gaza, with separate attacks targeting locations in Khan Younis, Gaza City and northern parts of the enclave. Israeli military stated that it had struck positions it regards as linked to militant group. However, civilians are among the fatalities.
The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) described the operations as responses to what it called repeated violations of the ceasefire agreement by groups like Hamas. The army said its actions were precise and lawful, aimed at neutralising threats to Israeli security, including reported attempts to breach ceasefire lines.
Hamas officials strongly condemned the strikes, branding them a “massacre” and accusing Israel of undermining the tenuous truce that had helped reduce large-scale fighting. The militant group called on international mediators to intervene and halt what it described as continued aggression against civilians in the densely populated coastal territory.
The renewed fatalities add to the heavy toll sustained in Gaza since major hostilities began in October 2023 after an attack by Hamas militants on southern Israel. Gaza’s health authorities report that tens of thousands of Palestinians have died in the protracted conflict, including many civilians, even as intermittent ceasefires and diplomatic negotiations have sought to establish longer pauses in the fighting.
The latest escalation has further complicated efforts by international actors, including the United States and regional partners, to solidify a peace plan and support reconstruction and stabilisation in the enclave, where humanitarian needs remain severe and widespread displacement persists.
Local hospitals and emergency responders have reiterated concerns about shrinking medical capacity as facilities struggle to cope with casualties and limited supplies, while aid agencies have warned that continued violence will worsen the humanitarian crisis affecting thousands of families across Gaza.
Amid the intermittent tension in the region, during the closing session of the African Union Summit, the Union demanded full membership for Palestine in the UN. Their closing statemet also condemned the attempts to displace the Palestinian population.
