Six Previously Censored Films to Screen at IFFK Tomorrow

Thiruvananthapuram: On the sixth day of the International Film Festival (Wednesday), a total of 72 films will be screened across 16 screens in 11 theatres, including six films that had previously been denied censor clearance.


World Cinema will feature 26 films, Kaleidoscope seven, International Competition six, Festival Favourite five, Malayalam Cinema Today four, Filmmaker in Focus and Indian Cinema Now three each, Female Focus, Latin American Movies, Suvarna Chakoram Films, and Country Focus two each, with one film each under Lifetime Achievement, Rithwik Ghatak Retrospective, and other sections.

The world premiere of Garin Nugroho’s 'Samsara,' set in 1930s Bali, will take place at Sree Theatre at 3:15 pm under the Filmmaker in Focus section. His other films, 'Whispers in Dubas' and 'Birdman Tale,' will be screened at Aries Plex and Ajanta theatres, respectively.


Rithwik Ghatak’s 'Komal Gandhar' (1961), exploring art, life, class struggle, corruption, and partition, will be screened at New Theatre Screen 3 at 3:30 pm in the Retrospective section. From the Palestine package, 'Once Upon a Time in Gaza' will be shown at New Theatre Screen 2 at 8:30 pm, while Shaikarmelly Pollakin’s Israeli film 'The Sea,' which depicts a Palestinian boy’s story, will screen at Sree Theatre at 6:15 pm under the Palestine Film section. Animation highlights include the French- Guinean film 'Allah is Not Obliged,' while Dariush Mehrjui’s 'Leila,' a milestone in Iranian cinema, will feature in the Past Life Achievement section. Rajivnath’s National Award-winning 'Janani' will also be screened. The Moroccan crime drama 'Ali Sow: Prince of the Streets,' a previous Suvarna Chakoram winner, will screen at Nil Theatre at 6:15 pm, with the Mexican film "Parque Vía' at New Theatre Screen 3. International Competition entries include 'Thanthapperu' and "The Elshian Field.' Malayalam Cinema Today will showcase 'Pennum Porattum,' 'Kaathirippu,' 'Oru Apasarppaka Katha,' and 'Ebb,' while Festival Favourite selections include 'The President’s Cake' and 'Bugonia.' A conversation with renowned Vietnamese filmmaker and jury member Buoi Thac Chuyen is scheduled at Nil Theatre at 2:30 pm.
