Los Angeles: The Television Academy on Wednesday unveiled the full list of nominations for the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards, with HBO Max's medical drama "The Pitt" leading the field with 25 nominations overall. Close behind was the final season of "Hacks," which picked up 24 nods and set a new record for the most nominations earned by a comedy series in a single year. Apple TV's horror-comedy "Widow's Bay" followed with 19 nominations, the highest tally among all new shows this season.

Several other titles crossed into double digits. "Pluribus" collected 18 nominations, "Beef" earned 16, "DTF St. Louis" received 13, while "Saturday Night Live" and "Spider-Noir" tied with 11 nominations apiece.

The nominations were announced in stages through Wednesday morning. The categories of best variety series and best reality competition programme were revealed earlier on NBC's "Today" show, before past Emmy winners Liza Colon-Zayas of "The Bear" and Jeff Hiller of "Somebody Somewhere" unveiled the remainder of the list in a livestreamed ceremony from the Television Academy's Saban Media Center.

The Academy had originally planned to reveal this year's nominees in two rounds, with the bulk announced on July 8 and additional nominees to follow a week later, on July 15. It later decided to announce the complete list on July 8 instead.

Mariska Hargitay will host this year's ceremony, which airs live on NBC and streams on Peacock on Monday, September 14. The Creative Arts Emmys, where the majority of trophies are handed out, will be held roughly a week earlier, on September 5 and 6.

Hargitay is the first Emmys host in nearly two decades not primarily known for comedic work. She won an Emmy herself in 2006 for playing Olivia Benson on "Law & Order: SVU," now the longest-running primetime drama in US television history, which returns for its 28th season on NBC this fall.
