Madurai:The 24th Party Congress of the CPI M passed a resolution strongly opposing the BJP government’s push for ‘One Nation, One Election’, calling it an assault on India’s federal structure and democratic principles. The party termed the move a step toward centralising power and compared it to fascist-era slogans of uniformity.
Rejecting claims that simultaneous elections would save money or aid development, the CPI M stated there’s no evidence supporting such arguments. It warned that aligning state assembly terms with Lok Sabha polls would violate citizens' right to elect governments for full five-year terms.
The party also flagged concerns over potential amendments to the Constitution, which it said would undermine democracy and federalism. It called on all democratic forces to oppose the proposal and resist this centralising and anti-democratic agenda.
