Kanchipuram: Actor and Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) president Vijay made his first public appearance in Tamil Nadu on Sunday following the Karur tragedy. He attended an indoor campaign event organized as part of TVK’s political outreach in Kanchipuram. The party has resumed its campaign activities after a two-month pause.

Addressing the gathering, Vijay said that his political struggle is for social justice and that his party stands for equality. He sharply criticized the ruling DMK government, raising multiple allegations against it. However, he did not comment on the policies of the BJP-led central government, nor did he mention the opposition parties in Tamil Nadu. Reports also noted that Vijay avoided any reference to the Karur incident.

The event began at 11 AM on a private college campus. Around 2,000 people from 35 villages in the district participated, including farmers, students, and TVK workers. Entry was restricted to attendees with QR-coded passes.

Security was handled by TVK volunteers who had received training from retired IPS officers. Barricades were installed to prevent unauthorized access to the venue.

On September 27, a TVK campaign event in Veluchamipuram, Karur, turned tragic when massive crowds gathered to see Vijay and were forced to wait for long hours. The resulting chaos led to a deadly stampede-like situation, claiming 41 lives.
