Chennai: A major fire broke out in a goods train carrying diesel near Tiruvallur railway station in Tamil Nadu early Sunday morning. The incident occurred around 5:30 am, with flames engulfing five wagons and thick smoke spreading across the area.
Authorities suspect sabotage, as a crack was found on the railway track at the site. The possibility of deliberate tampering is now under investigation.
The fire caused significant disruption to rail traffic. Over ten fire and rescue units were deployed, and after a prolonged effort, the flames were brought under control. A major disaster was averted as the remaining wagons were saved from the blaze.
The train was travelling from Manali to the Tirupati region when the fire broke out. Videos of the incident quickly went viral on social media, drawing public attention. Fortunately, no casualties or damage to nearby properties were reported.
As a safety measure, residents in the vicinity were temporarily evacuated. While the exact cause remains unconfirmed, eight train services via Tiruvallur were cancelled, and restoration of the affected route is ongoing.
