Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin cast his vote at a polling booth in Chennai on Thursday, contesting from his home constituency of Kolathur as he has done in previous elections. After voting, Stalin called on every citizen to fulfil their democratic duty. "Just as I have exercised my right, everyone must discharge their democratic responsibility — that is important. Tamil Nadu will win," he said.
In a post on X, Stalin declared that every vote cast today is a shield to protect Tamil Nadu's future, and that each vote must serve as a force to defend the constitutional values of democracy, secularism, states' rights, equality, and social justice. He concluded with the confident assertion: "Tamil Nadu will vote; Tamil Nadu will win."
Deputy Chief Minister and Chepauk constituency candidate Udhayanidhi Stalin also voted in Chennai along with family members. His son Inbanidhi cast his first-ever vote in this election. Udhayanidhi Stalin's principal opponents in Chepauk-Thiruvallikeni are AIADMK's Adi Rajaram, NTK's Ayesha Begum, and TVK's D Selvam.
Voting is underway across all 234 constituencies in a single phase, with the main contest between the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA), the AIADMK-BJP alliance, and actor Vijay's TVK. CPI(M) is contesting in five constituencies. Vote counting is scheduled for May 4.
