Indian Railways Hikes Passenger Fares Again; New Rates Will Be Effective From December 26

New Delhi: Indian Railways has once again increased passenger fares. The fare for general class tickets for journeys exceeding 215 kilometres has been raised by 1 paise per kilometre. For Mail and Express trains, fares for both non-air-conditioned coaches and air-conditioned coaches have been increased by 2 paise per kilometre. The revised fares will come into effect from December 26.
With the new rates, passengers travelling 500 kilometres in non-air-conditioned coaches will have to pay an additional 10 rupees. There is no change in suburban train fares, but long-distance passengers will now have to pay more. Fares for general class tickets up to 215 kilometres remain unchanged.
The latest fare hike is expected to generate an additional annual revenue of 600 crore rupees for the Railways. This is the second time ticket fare has increase this year.
Earlier, in July, the Railways had raised fares by 1 paise per kilometre for non-air-conditioned classes and 2 paise per kilometre for air-conditioned classes on Mail and Express trains.
