New Delhi: CPI(M) on Tuesday adopted a resolution at its Jan Aakrosh Rally held at Ramlila Maidan, criticising the Centre’s stance on the ongoing West Asian conflict and raising concerns over rising prices and fuel shortages in the country.

The resolution states that the BJP-led Central government failed to respond adequately to the US and Israel attack on Iran, adding that its silence has worsened the economic burden on ordinary people in India. The resolution pointed to shortages of LPG cylinders even in rural areas and rising prices of cooking gas and petrol, which have in turn pushed up the cost of essential commodities such as vegetables and rice.

The CPI(M) also condemned the human cost of the war, stating that thousands have been killed, including top leaders in Iran, and highlighting incidents such as attacks on civilian infrastructure, including a school in Iran's Minab, that resulted in the deaths of over 160 students and teachers.

The resolution further criticised U.S. actions globally, referring to developments in Gaza Strip, Venezuela, and Cuba, and stated that India’s foreign policy under the BJP has shifted towards alignment with Washington. It claimed that India has moved away from its traditional independent stance in international affairs.

Calling for immediate action, the party demanded that the Central government publicly condemn the attacks on Iran and Palestine and take steps to ensure the safety of Indian citizens living in Gulf and West Asian countries.

The resolution also urged the government to address domestic concerns by curbing inflation, reducing fuel prices, and ensuring the availability of LPG cylinders for all sections of society.

The rally was part of a nationwide mobilisation campaign by the CPI(M) against the “anti-people policies” of the Centre, bringing together workers, farmers, and various mass organisations to voice their demands.

US-Israel attack on Iran is having a big impact on our lives. Due to the failure of the BJP-led government to assess the situation and take necessary steps, there is scarcity of gas cylinders even in small villages. On top of it, the government has increased the price of gas and petrol. The resulting increase in the price of vegetables, rice and other essential commodities have added to our burdens.

US-Israel attack on Iran killed thousands of people including the leaders of the government. The most inhuman nature of their aggression is seen in the attack on a school which led to the death of more than 160 girl students and their teachers.

Before attacking Iran, Israel and US carried out genocidal attack on Gaza. US attacked and kidnapped the President of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro and the First Lady. It had bombed an Iranian ship which participated in an event organised by the Indian Navy. The US has intensified the economic blockade on Cuba and is now threatening that it will dismantle the socialist system in Cuba.

Instead of condemning these attacks, the BJP government stood with US and Israel. Under the BJP, India has become a subordinate ally of the US.

We demand the BJP-led Union government to condemn the US-Israel attack on Iran and Palestine. It should take steps to protect the lives of Indians who are living in the Gulf and West Asia. The war should end immediately.

All of us who have gathered here in the Jan Aakrosh Rally demand the government to curb price rise, reduce the price of gas and ensure that cylinders are available to all those who are in need.
