New Delhi: The All India Lawyers Union (AILU) has strongly condemned Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar’s support for removing the words “secular” and “socialist” from the Preamble of the Constitution, calling it a direct attack on constitutional values.
In a statement, AILU said Dhankhar’s remarks echo the RSS agenda and reflect a broader plan to undermine the Constitution. “The RSS, which had no role in the freedom struggle, has never accepted constitutional values and has long demanded a system based on Manusmriti,” it said.
Highlighting Dr. B R Ambedkar’s firm opposition to Chaturvarnya and Sanatana ideals, AILU alleged that the current political leadership is attempting to revive casteist values under the guise of tradition. It warned that these efforts are part of a larger move to pave the way for a Hindutva theocracy.
The Union also criticised attacks on the judiciary, stating they are aimed at weakening judicial review and constitutional checks. AILU urged the legal community to resist these moves. “This is a dangerous attempt to rewrite the very soul of our Constitution,” it said.
