Thrissur: Financial assistance announced by Lulu Group Chairman M A Yusuff Ali for the families of those who lost their lives and others affected by the Mundathikode fireworks accident was distributed at a function held at the Thrissur Collectorate.
Health Minister K Muraleedharan handed over the aid to the beneficiaries. Families of the 16 victims who died in the tragedy received ₹1 lakh each, while those undergoing treatment for injuries and other affected individuals were provided ₹50,000 each.
Among those present at the function were Rajan Pallan MLA, Thrissur Additional District Magistrate R. Manoj, Deputy Collector Dr. Preetha Zachariah, Lulu Group India COO and Director Fahas Ashraf, CMD Secretary E. A. Haris, and Media Head N. B. Swaraj.
The tragedy occurred following a massive explosion at a fireworks manufacturing unit in Mundathikode, claiming the lives of 16 people, including Thiruvambady fireworks licensee Satheesh of Mundathikode.
According to preliminary assessments, the explosion was of an intensity comparable to a bomb blast. The powerful shockwave generated by the blast caused extensive injuries, with the force reportedly leading to severe trauma and dismemberment in several cases. Officials indicated that the high-pressure impact on exposed parts of the body contributed significantly to the scale of the fatalities.
