Walayar: The police remand report revealing the brutal assault faced by Ramnarayan Bhayyal, who was killed in a mob lynching in Walayar, has been released. The report was submitted by Walayar Inspector NS Rajeev to the Palakkad Judicial First Class Magistrate Court–I, detailing the extreme cruelty involved in the attack. Five people, including four BJP workers, have been arrested in the case. When Bhayyal said that he had come in search of his sister, the accused allegedly shouted that he was an illegal immigrant from Bangladesh and brutally assaulted him.

The case has been registered under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), charging the accused with murder. According to the remand report, Bhayyal died after he was taken by ambulance to the district hospital following police intervention. Those arrested are Ananthan (55) of Kizhakke Attappallam, and BJP–RSS activists A. Anu (38) of Attappallam Kallankadu, C. Prasad (34) and C. Murali (38) of Attappallam Mahalikkadu, and K. Bibin (30) of Kizhakke Attappallam. Murali and Anu are also accused in a case from 15 years ago involving the hacking of CITU activist Stephen and DYFI activist Vinod at Attappallam.

According to the statement of Dr Subin Francis from the district hospital, Ramnarayan had multiple injuries all over his body, and blood was seen oozing from his lips and nose. The report states that severe assault causing internal organ damage was the cause of death. Video footage of the mob lynching shows the presence of several more individuals. Police say that many of those suspected to be involved have fled the area.

As the Crime Branch has taken over the investigation, the accused currently in remand will be taken into custody for collecting further evidence, said Walayar Inspector NS Rajeev. He also stated that more arrests are likely in the coming days.
