Statement Recorded in Rape Case Against Rahul Mamkootathil

Thiruvananthapuram: An important development has taken place in the rape case against Youth Congress State Secretary Rahul Mamkootathil. The Thiruvalla Judicial First Class Magistrate Court recorded the confidential statement of the survivor, who is currently residing abroad.

The statement was recorded via video conferencing at the Indian Embassy, in accordance with the guidelines issued by the High Court. The proceedings took place on Wednesday at the embassy. After the statement was recorded, the survivor’s signature was obtained on a copy of the statement.

Although her statement has already been recorded, the complainant stated that she is willing to appear again to give a further statement if necessary.

Case had earlier been registered against Rahul Mamkootathil based on the complaint filed by the woman while she was living abroad. As the case is ongoing, the recording of her statement forms part of the continuing investigation. It is indicated that the investigation team will gather further evidence in the coming days.
