Alappuzha: Steel Industrials Kerala Limited (SILK), a public sector company, has achieved record-breaking results as it approaches its golden jubilee. In the 2024–25 financial year, SILK posted a turnover of Rs 74.89 crore, an operating profit of Rs 4 crore, and a net profit of RS 1.72 crore. These figures represent a significant improvement over 2023–24, when turnover was Rs 83 crore, operating profit stood at Rs 2.97 crore, and net profit at Rs 51.54 lakh, according to officials at a press briefing.
One of the key contributors to this performance was the Ottapalam Foundry Unit, which increased its operating profit from Rs 84.67 lakh in 2023–24 to Rs 88.68 lakh in 2024–25. The overall growth is largely credited to strategic initiatives by the Board for Public Sector Transformation (BPST), aimed at enhancing collaboration between the Industries Department and various public sector undertakings. Partnerships with entities such as Cochin Shipyard, KAMCO, KMML, Malabar Cements, and Keltron have resulted in notable production gains. In particular, the fabrication division saw a dramatic 245% rise in output. SILK is also constructing a roll-on/roll-off vessel for the Kochi Corporation on the Fort Kochi–Vypin route.
The golden jubilee year will be officially launched at 5:30 PM on Tuesday at SILK’s Steel Fabrication Unit in Cherthala. The inauguration will be conducted by Minister P. Rajeev, with MLA P.P. Chitharanjan presiding over the event.
