Idukki: Leader of the Opposition Pinarayi Vijayan visited the child undergoing treatment at Government Medical College Kottayam after being injured in a wild elephant attack in Chinnakanal, Idukki.

He said that the incident was extremely unfortunate and urged the state government to take necessary precautionary measures to prevent the recurrence of animal attacks.

“I spoke with the child. The child said there was severe pain, particularly around the skull area. The doctor, superintendent, and a neurologist were present there. Everyone is hopeful that the child’s condition will improve,” he said.

He added that the incident was deeply unfortunate and noted that although two children were injured in the attack, this child had suffered more serious injuries. He stressed that the government must take immediate action.

“Steps had already been initiated earlier regarding wildlife attacks, and those measures must certainly continue. The most important thing is to take necessary precautions to ensure that people are not subjected to further attacks,” the senior CPI(M) leader said.

V N Vasavan, K N Venugopal, and hospital superintendent T G K Thomas accompanied Pinarayi Vijayan during the visit.
