Historic Moment: CM Pinarayi Vijayan Extends Heartfelt Invitation to Chooralmala-Mundakkai Township Inauguration

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has invited the public to attend the inauguration of 178 houses constructed by the State government for survivors of the Chooralmala-Mundakkai landslide disaster. The event will be held at 11 am on March 1 at Elston Estate, Kalpetta.
In his message, the Chief Minister extended a special invitation to those who took part in the rescue operations and those who contributed to rehabilitation efforts, urging them to witness what he described as a historic moment. He expressed hope that people from across the state would gather at the venue to mark the occasion.

Recalling the devastating landslide that struck the Chooralmal-Mundakkai region on July 30, 2024, the Chief Minister said the tragedy shook the conscience of the nation. “In a single night, an entire village was buried, leaving the country in shock and grief,” he said. He noted that in the immediate aftermath of the disaster, ministers, elected representatives, health workers, armed forces personnel, volunteers, organisational workers and sanitation staff worked tirelessly in rescue and relief operations.
The Chief Minister said the LDF government had assured comprehensive and world-class rehabilitation for those who lost their homes and livelihoods. The newly constructed township, he said, stands as a testament to that commitment.
At the function, the Chief Minister will formally inaugurate the township and distribute land ownership documents to the beneficiaries.
