Thiruvananthapuram: The state government’s comprehensive health and accident insurance scheme for expatriates and their families, Norka Care, implemented through Norka Roots, has crossed one lakh enrollments. This is the first time in the country that a state government has introduced a health insurance scheme exclusively for expatriates. Those who have completed enrolment will receive coverage from Kerala Piravi Day, November 1.

As part of the programme, the official insurance certificate will be handed over on November 1 in the presence of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Norka Roots Resident Vice Chairman P Sreeramakrishnan. During the ceremony, held in the Chief Minister’s chamber, New India Assurance Deputy General Manager Joyce Satish will hand over the insurance certificate to Norka Roots Chief Executive Officer Ajith Kolasseri.

Launched on September 22, 2025, the Norka Care Global Registration Drive achieved the milestone of one lakh enrolments within just 40 days.

Expatriate communities, organisations, and associations across the world have actively promoted the Norka Care initiative through extensive campaigns. The scheme is open to expatriate Keralites holding valid Norka Pravasi ID, Student ID, or NRK ID cards.

So far in the current financial year, around two lakh expatriate Keralites have benefited from Norka Pravasi ID card services. Under the Norka Care scheme, a family (husband, wife, and up to two children under 25 years) is eligible for five lakh rupees of health insurance coverage and ten lakh rupees of group personal accident insurance at a premium of 13,411 rupees. An additional child under 25 years can be included for 4,130 rupees.

For individuals aged 18 to 70, the premium is 8,101 rupees. The scheme ensures cashless treatment for expatriate Keralites through over 18,000 hospitals across India, including more than 500 hospitals in Kerala.
