Kochi: The court has rejected the bail applications of the accused in the case involving a car that rammed into a scooter in Nedumbassery, killing three people. The Angamaly Magistrate Court dismissed the bail pleas of the first accused, Suhail Sajeev, and the other accused, Ninav, Joel and Ameer.

Arguments on the bail applications concluded on Friday, following which the court reserved its order until Saturday.

During the hearing on the previous day, the defence argued that three people were travelling on a single scooter and that this had contributed to the accident. The court questioned whether that justified the car hitting the scooter.

The accident occurred at 1.45 am on October 11. The car rammed into the scooter carrying Devika, a native of Wayanad, Gopika from Palakkad and Iyas from Karnataka, killing all three instantly. Local residents caught Suhail, who was driving the car, and handed him over to the police.

The failure to include the accused's name or mention that he was intoxicated in the initial FIR had triggered considerable controversy. His intoxication was mentioned in the remand report.

Test results released recently found that Suhail had consumed alcohol in excess. The alcohol level in his blood was 5.3 times the permissible limit of 30 milligrams per 100 millilitres of blood.

It was earlier reported that prior to the accident, Suhail had consumed alcohol from three bars since the afternoon.
