Malabar Cancer Centre Among Top AI Cancer Projects in Country

Thiruvananthapuram: The Malabar Cancer Centre (MCC) has been selected among the country’s top projects aimed at transforming cancer treatment through artificial intelligence. MCC has secured a place in the CATCH Grant 2026, a prestigious joint initiative of IndiaAI Mission, National Cancer Grid (NCG), and the Koytha Centre for Digital Oncology (KCDO).

State Health Minister Veena George congratulated the MCC team for strengthening AI-driven advancements in the healthcare sector.

The project, presented collaboratively by MCC’s incubation centre MIINT (Malabar Cancer Centre Incubation Innovation Nest) and Wellytics, has been ranked among the top 10 projects in the country. Titled “AI Oncology Agent for Evidence-Based Summaries, Guideline Support, and Clinical Trial Matching,” the initiative has garnered national recognition. The AI Oncology Agent is designed to assist doctors in making informed clinical decisions by rapidly analyzing patient data, generating evidence-based summaries, supporting treatment guidelines, and identifying suitable clinical trials.

In addition, the project “AI Tools for Advancing Value-Based Care in Oncology,” launched by Doctor Assist AI in collaboration with MCC, has been listed among the top 35 projects nationwide. This initiative focuses on promoting value-based care, ensuring improved treatment outcomes while reducing costs for patients.

MIINT, established in 2025 at MCC, serves as an incubation platform to accelerate the growth of medtech startups. The centre plays a pivotal role in bridging innovative healthcare ideas with practical clinical applications. It provides clinical mentorship, validation support, and structured guidance to address real-world healthcare challenges. Currently, seven startups across various healthcare domains are operating successfully under MIINT.

The grant was formally received at Bharat Mandapam, Delhi, by MCC Director Dr. B. Satheesan and Wellytics Director Dr. B. Dheeraj from Rajeev Bahl, Director General of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), and IT Secretary Mr. Krishnan. MCC faculty mentors Dr. Deepak Roshan, Dr. V. P. Praveen Kumar Shenoy, and Dr. M. Geetha also attended the award ceremony.
