Third-Standard Student Dies in Kottakkal Lorry Crash

Kottakkal (Malappuram): A third- standard student died in an accident at Puthur Aricholiyil after an out -of- control cargo lorry rammed into several vehicles. The deceased is Reem Shanavas (9), from Cherankal Changaranchola, Randathani.

Nine people were injured in the accident. The incident occurred around 7 am on Wednesday. The cargo lorry, which lost its brakes on the Puthur downhill stretch of the Perinthalmanna–Kottakkal road, crashed into multiple vehicles. After hitting two scooters and a car, it pushed another car off the road and into a nearby slope.

Reem Shanavas was travelling to school with his mother Sajna on a scooter. Though she was rushed to Kottakkal MIMS Hospital with serious injuries, she died in the evening. The lorry finally came to a halt after crashing into a roadside transformer, which was completely destroyed. The injured were admitted to a private hospital in Kottakkal.

Those injured are: Sumana (35), Naila (5), Aaliya (7), Faseena (41), Ajay (35), Sajna (36), Rihan (44), Shafna (38), and Satheesh (36). Power supply in the area was completely disrupted following the accident. Reem Shanavas was a third-standard student at Puthur Peace School. Father: Shanavas.
