Thiruvananthapuram: The state government has paid tribute to Alin Sherin Abraham, a child who has made a profound impact on the history of organ donation in Kerala. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan expressed his admiration for Alin's parents, who selflessly decided to donate their 10-month-old daughter’s organs despite facing immense hardship. The Chief Minister announced that Alin's funeral would be held with official honours, recognizing the family's remarkable decision.

In a Facebook post, the Chief Minister hailed the bravery of Alin's parents, noting that their decision set a powerful example for the people of Kerala. Alin, who tragically passed away, became the youngest organ donor in the state’s history. Her organs gave new life to five people in need of transplants.

The Chief Minister further shared that the organs were initially planned to be transported from Kochi to Thiruvananthapuram by helicopter. However, due to restrictions on the use of civil aviation helicopters at night, the organs were instead transported by road. He expressed heartfelt appreciation for the health workers, police, and ambulance drivers involved in the operation. He also highlighted the successful cooperation between the government and private sectors in facilitating this.

Alin's parents, Arun Abraham and Sherin Ann John, residents of Mallappally in Pathanamthitta, have been praised for their incredible act of generosity. The Chief Minister also conveyed his condolences to the grieving family.

Alin Sherin Abraham’s funeral will take place at 3.30 pm on Sunday at St. Thomas Church in Nedungadapally. Her body was taken to Kottayam Medical College Hospital late on Friday night and later transferred to a private hospital in Mallappally after postmortem. The body will be handed over to the family on Sunday morning.

Alin's family was met with a tragic accident while they were traveling from Kottayam to Thiruvalla. The car was involved in an accident near the Pallam Borma junction, resulting in severe injuries to Alin. She was first admitted to hospitals in Changanassery and Thiruvalla before being transferred to Amrita Hospital in Kochi.

Alin was declared brain dead on Thursday, and her parents made the courageous decision to donate her organs. In a heartening act of altruism, they agreed to donate Alin’s liver, two kidneys, a heart valve, and other organs, providing a new lease on life to five individuals. Alin’s organ donation set a new milestone, as she became the youngest organ donor in Kerala’s history.

Alin’s organs were transported from Amrita Hospital in Kochi to Thiruvananthapuram on Friday night, covering the 211 km distance in just 3 hours and 15 minutes. The two kidneys were donated to a child at the Pediatric Nephrology Ward of SAT Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram Medical College. The liver was transplanted to a six-month-old child at KIMS Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram, while the heart valve went to Sree Chitra Institute. The retina were sent to Amrita Hospital in Kochi for transplant.

Alin Sherin’s selfless contribution has not only saved lives but also inspired many in Kerala and beyond. Her story underscores the importance of organ donation and the life-saving potential of such acts. As the state mourns her untimely passing, Alin’s legacy will continue to live on through the recipients of her organs.
