Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government has decided to file a review petition against the Supreme Court verdict that mandates all public school teachers with over five years of service to have cleared the K-TET eligibility test.

The decision was taken in a high-level meeting chaired by Education Minister V. Sivankutty, which tasked the Advocate General’s office with filing the review petition.

As per the Supreme Court ruling, teachers who were appointed before the RTE Act came into force and have more than five years remaining until retirement must clear the K-TET within two years to continue in service. Those who fail may either resign or face compulsory retirement with terminal benefits.

Teachers with less than five years of service as of September 1, 2025, are not required to pass the K-TET but will be ineligible for promotions.

The judgment is expected to impact nearly 50,000 teachers across Kerala, raising concerns over their job security and career progression.
