Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department has forecast strong rain and winds across Kerala in the coming days, driven by a new low pressure area developing in the Bay of Bengal and a cyclonic circulation forming in the Arabian Sea.
A low pressure area is expected to form in the southwest Bay of Bengal around May 11, under the influence of a cyclonic circulation persisting over the Gulf of Mannar and Sri Lanka. A separate cyclonic circulation is also active over the southwest Arabian Sea, Lakshadweep, and the Kerala coast. As a result, isolated heavy rainfall accompanied by winds gusting between 30 and 50 kilometres per hour is forecast across Kerala until May 13.
In the next three hours, Kannur and Kasaragod districts are likely to experience isolated moderate rain with lightning and winds up to 40 km/h. Light rain is also possible in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, and Idukki.
Fishing Warning
Authorities have advised fisherfolk not to venture into the sea off Kanyakumari, Lakshadweep, and the central and eastern Arabian Sea, where strong winds up to 60 km/h and rough sea conditions are expected.
