Alappuzha: In a politically significant statement, UDF candidate G Sudhakaran has claimed that he expects to receive votes from BJP supporters in the Ambalappuzha constituency.

Speaking at a UDF constituency convention, Sudhakaran made the declaration openly, drawing applause from Congress workers present at the event. He asserted that around 5,000 BJP votes would come his way in the upcoming election.

The convention was inaugurated by AICC General Secretary in charge of organization, K C Venugopal. Notably, none of the Congress leaders on stage expressed any surprise or disagreement over Sudhakaran’s remarks.

Elaborating on his claim, Sudhakaran said that the area where he resides had elected BJP representatives in the recent local body elections. According to him, BJP supporters from that locality had personally met him and assured their backing, despite the party fielding an official candidate.

He further noted that members of the Nair community in the constituency traditionally vote for the BJP, largely identifying the party with Hindu interests. Sudhakaran expressed confidence that a significant portion of these votes would shift in his favor this time.

Several UDF leaders, including A. A. Shukoor, Rajan Babu, A. M. Naseer, Aloysius Xavier, B. Rajasekharan, and Molly Jacob, were present at the event.
