Case Registered Against Congress Leader for Circulating Fake AI Image of Pinarayi Vijayan

Thiruvananthapuram: Police have registered a case against KPCC Political Affairs Committee member N Subrahmanyan for circulating a fake AI-generated image showing Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan alongside Unnikrishnan Potti, an accused in the Sabarimala gold smuggling case. The Chevayur Police in Kozhikode took suo motu action and booked him under Section 122 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The Congress party has already been under pressure following reports that Sonia Gandhi and other Congress leaders had allegedly met Unnikrishnan Potti, the prime accused in the Sabarimala gold smuggling case. Amid this controversy, Congress leaders came forward with allegations aimed at tarnishing the Chief Minister’s image.

UDF convener Adoor Prakash, while repeatedly claiming ignorance about the alleged Potti–Sonia Gandhi meeting, had accused Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan of meeting Potti even before he himself did. Soon after this claim, an image purportedly showing the Chief Minister with Unnikrishnan Potti surfaced on social media.

However, CPI(M) state secretary MV Govindan strongly rejected these allegations. He stated that the Chief Minister had never met Unnikrishnan Potti in any capacity and clarified that the image released by Adoor Prakash was a fake, created using artificial intelligence. He added that the truth would soon come out.

Further investigation into the case is currently underway.
