Thiruvananthapuram: Leader of Opposition Pinarayi Vijayan has extended Diwali greetings to the public. He wished that the festival of lights would spread the light of goodness and love in people's hearts. He also expressed hope that Diwali would strengthen mutual trust, harmony, and brotherhood, and convey a message of moving forward together by setting aside differences.

Diwali is being celebrated across the state, with the night sky illuminated by colourful fireworks. In Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city, celebrations are particularly vibrant in areas where Tamil traditions are also deeply rooted. Diwali festivities in the district began as early as Saturday, with people bursting firecrackers.

Diwali is also a celebration of a variety of delicious sweets, including kaju katli, jalebi, barfi, laddu, Mysore pak, peda, halwa, and gulab jamun. Hundreds of people have been arriving every day to buy firecrackers from Nandiyode and Poozhikkunnu, which are known for preserving the tradition of locally made palm-leaf firecrackers.

Firecrackers imported from other states had been available for sale at small stalls across urban and rural areas weeks ahead of the festival. Chala, a major commercial centre, also witnessed a surge in sales, with the market offering new varieties of firecrackers and Diwali sweets.
