Kannur: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan dedicated the Ayurveda Research Centre in Kalliad, stating that the state has achieved national and international recognition in Ayurveda. He noted that the field had seen little growth in the past due to a lack of research, resulting in the loss of valuable traditional knowledge. He also remarked that practitioners of modern medicine often hold a different attitude toward Ayurveda and spread misinformation about it.

The first phase of the building, completed in Kannur, Kalliad, spans a 300-acre site with an investment of Rs 200 crore. It includes a 100-bed research hospital, a medicinal plant research center, a nursery, and a palm-leaf manuscript study center. Over forty national and international research institutions have already expressed interest in collaborating with the center. The initial research priority will focus on aging and cancer, with the Malabar Cancer Centre set to collaborate with the research initiatives.
