BJP Worker Booked for Attempted Sexual Assault During Poll Campaign in Thiruvananthapuram

Thiruvananthapuram: Police have registered a case against a BJP worker for allegedly attempting to sexually assault a housewife while accompanying a BJP candidate during local body election campaigning in Mangalapuram, Thiruvananthapuram. The accused, identified as Raju, was part of the campaign team for the Idavilakam ward of Mangalapuram panchayat.
According to the complaint, the incident took place around 3.30 pm on Friday. After the BJP candidate finished canvassing and left the house, Raju allegedly stayed behind, asked the woman for drinking water, and followed her towards the kitchen. Once inside, he grabbed her and attempted to sexually assault her. The woman shouted for help, and Raju fled the house. At the time of the incident, no one else was present in the home.
The woman later filed a complaint at the Mangalapuram Police Station. Based on her statement, police registered a case and have begun efforts to trace the accused, who has since gone into hiding.
The complainant has also stated that when she informed the BJP candidate about the incident, he responded by taking a stance that appeared to defend or justify the accused, instead of addressing the seriousness of the allegation.
Police investigation is ongoing.
