Alappuzha: A wedding in Alappuzha took an unexpected turn on Friday when the bride, injured in a road accident earlier in the day, was married from her hospital bed in Kochi. Avani, from Thumpoli, had been travelling back from a beauty parlour in Thanneermukkom when the car she was in met with an accident. She was first admitted to Kottayam Medical College and later shifted to a private hospital in Kochi for further care.

With the auspicious wedding time set between 12:12 and 12:25 in the afternoon, both families gathered anxiously in the hospital after learning of the accident. Doctors confirmed that while Avani had suffered a spinal injury and a fracture in her leg, her condition was stable and she was conscious. Surgery has been scheduled for Saturday.

Given the circumstances, the families decided not to postpone the marriage. In a quiet ceremony inside the hospital room, groom Sharoon tied the thali around Avani’s neck as close relatives looked on. The scene was far removed from the decorated auditorium they had booked, but those present said the moment carried its own sense of resolve and tenderness.

Meanwhile, at the Shakthi Auditorium in Alappuzha, where the ceremony had originally been planned, the wedding feast was still served to guests who had gathered, many of them receiving updates from the hospital in real time.

Three others who were travelling with Avani were also injured in the crash and are undergoing treatment at Kottayam Medical College.

Though the day unfolded in ways no family expects, the hospital ceremony stood as a reminder of how people often try to hold on to something hopeful even in the middle of shock and uncertainty.
