Kerala Local Body Elections: 7,210 Kudumbashree Women Make Historic Win

Thiruvananthapuram: Kudumbashree is now set to play a prominent role in local governance. In this election, 7,210 Kudumbashree women secured victory out of a total of 17,082 women contestants. Kozhikode recorded the highest number of wins, with 709 Kudumbashree members elected. Malappuram comes second with 697 women winners, followed by Thrissur with 652 winners.

Among the winners, 5,416 are neighbourhood group members, and 106 are from the auxiliary group. Of those who contested while serving as CDS (Community Development Society) chairpersons, 111 won, and 67 of those who contested as CDS vice- chairpersons were successful. Additionally, 724 CDS members and 786 ADS (Area Development Society) committee members won. In Attappadi, 13 out of 35 contestants emerged victorious.

From the three -tier organisational structure of Local Self Government, those who sought public mandate won as follows: 5,836 to Gram Panchayats, 88 to District Panchayats, 487 to Block Panchayats, 45 to Corporations, and 754 to Municipalities.
