Moscow: US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and presidential adviser Jared Kushner concluded a marathon, three-hour meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Saturday, carrying a fresh US proposal aimed at restarting stalled negotiations to end the war in Ukraine.

The high-stakes diplomatic visit prompted a temporary, localized pause on airstrikes, agreed upon to ensure the safe passage and logistics of the American delegation. During the Kremlin talks, which were followed by dinner, Putin outlined the battlefield situation to the US envoys while expressing openness to continued political and diplomatic dialogue.

Russian foreign policy aide Yuri Ushakov described the discussions as "timely and useful," noting that the US representatives presented a series of concepts directed toward a potential resolution.

Following their engagements in Moscow, Witkoff and Kushner are scheduled to travel onward to Kyiv on Sunday to present the framework to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. This marks the first known trip to the Ukrainian capital for the diplomatic duo since the full-scale conflict began. While President Donald Trump expressed optimism regarding the mission from Washington, international analysts and regional observers remain deeply cautious, noting that fundamental gaps persist between Moscow's baseline demands and Ukraine's sovereignty positions.
