Washington DC/ Tehran: Fresh signs of a possible ceasefire in West Asia have emerged after Iranian officials indicated that negotiations with the United States are moving closer to an agreement.

Following comments by US President Donald Trump, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that Iran and the United States have reached broad understanding on several issues and that a deal is closer than ever before.

According to reports, Araghchi stated that discussions include provisions related to easing sanctions on Iran and broader de-escalation measures. He also noted that negotiations connected to Iran’s nuclear program would be taken up in a later stage rather than being finalized immediately.

According to reports, the developing framework could also contribute to reopening shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and reducing regional tensions. However, Iranian media has indicated that Tehran has not agreed to surrender control over the strategic waterway.

The proposed understanding has not yet been finalized. Reports suggest that a preliminary agreement could take shape in the coming days if the remaining issues are resolved and approved by both sides.

Trump also shared Araghchi’s message on Truth Social, signalling a more optimistic tone compared with recent weeks of confrontation, although officials on both sides continue to describe negotiations as ongoing rather than complete.
