Dubai: Amid escalating war in West Asia, a cargo ship heading to India through the Strait of Hormuz was attacked. The vessel attacked was the Thai-owned bulk carrier “Mayuree Naree.”

The attack caused a fire on the ship, and three crew members went missing. The ship, traveling from Khalifa Port in the UAE to Kandla in Gujarat, was attacked on Wednesday morning around 11 a.m.

A missile or drone, whose origin is unknown, hit the rear of the vessel, triggering a major fire, including in the engine room. The Thai Navy released visuals showing black smoke rising from the ship. Out of the 23 crew members on board at the time of the incident, 20 were rescued by the Omani Navy.

Search efforts are currently ongoing for the three crew members who were in the burning engine room. The rescued personnel were taken to Khasab in Oman.

Against the backdrop of the West Asian conflict, shipping through the Strait of Hormuz is becoming increasingly dangerous. Reports indicate that three ships were attacked in this region on Wednesday alone. This new attack comes amid reports of mines being laid in the Iranian area.

As a result, the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial global oil route, would severely impact the global market and cargo movement to India.
