Hague: Rob Jetten was officially sworn in as the president of the Netherlands, marking a generational shift in Dutch politics. The swearing-in ceremony took place at the House Ten Bosch palace. The far-right government, led by Dick Schoof, collapsed 11 months earlier after disputes over refugee policy. This was followed by a surprise surge in Jetten's party, Democrats 66 (D66), during the general election held in October 2025. Jetten, who prioritises European cooperation and progressive ideas, came to power by defeating far-right leader Geert Wilders.

At 38 years old, Jetten becomes the youngest prime minister in Dutch history. He assumed office with the support of an alliance that includes D66 (progressive liberals), VVD (liberal conservatives), and CDA (Christian Democrats). Jetten's victory comes amid uncertainties in Dutch politics, and is celebrated by the country and progressive advocates. However, the alliance holds only 66 seats in the 150-member parliament. As a result, Jetten faces the significant challenge of reaching agreements with opposition parties for each piece of legislation.

Unlike previous prime ministers, Jetten is recognized as a young leader in the digital age. After assuming office, he wrote on X that his goal is to "overcome differences through cooperation." He is also the country's first leader to publicly reveal his homosexuality. Jetten has announced plans to address the severe housing shortage in the country by constructing new cities and townships. Additionally, he has set goals to implement both rigorous and humane immigration policies.
