Mecca: Forty-two Indian pilgrims travelling from Mecca to Medina were killed after their bus collided with a diesel tanker near the Mufarrahat area on the highway between Badr and Medina. The crash triggered a fire that engulfed the vehicle, leaving only one survivor, who has been admitted to a hospital. According to officials, the victims include 20 women and 11 children.

The group, all from Hyderabad, had reached Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah. The accident occurred around 1:30 AM IST, soon after the bus left Mecca following the pilgrimage. Civil Defence teams rushed to the spot and extinguished the flames, but the bodies were found completely charred, making identification extremely difficult. Authorities have confirmed that all the deceased are from Hyderabad.

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy expressed shock over the tragedy and said the state government is coordinating with central authorities for further assistance. Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi also conveyed grief and said he had contacted two Hyderabad-based travel agencies to gather details of the passengers and shared the information with the Indian Embassy in Riyadh.

The Indian Consulate General in Jeddah has set up a 24x7 control room to support affected families, coordinate official procedures, and provide verified updates.
